There is an interesting background to the Cambodia casinos that sit just across the dividing line from neighboring Thailand, where gambling den betting is against the law. Eight gambling dens are based in a generally tiny space in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This conclave of Cambodia gambling dens is in a perfect destination, a 3 to four hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the two largest gaming centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a thriving business with Thai laborers and tourists from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very couple of Westerners. The amazing capital accrued from the gambling halls ranges from seven and a half million dollars to over 12.5 million, and there are a couple of restrictions constraints for casino ownership. Ownership is required to be mainly Thai; however, financing sources are ambiguous. The borders are ceremoniously open from 09:00 to 17:00, and even though visas are supposedly required to cross, there are means around this, as is accurate of most border crossings.

The first Cambodia gambling dens opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving only 1 casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a stationary boat gambling den, highlights one hundred and fifty slots and 60 gaming tables. The Naga gambling den is open all day and night with forty two tables of mini-baccarat, four tables of vingt-et-un, 10 of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The first gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown soon opened. A total of one hundred and fifty slot machines and five tables at the Golden Crown and 104 slots and 68 table games at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features 300 slots and seventy tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slot machines and 96 gaming tables, including 87 baccarat (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slots and sixty six of the normal tables, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the eight gambling halls in Poipet, again a part of a hotel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machine games and 97 games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an all-around resort and hotel complex that contains numerous conveniences on top of the casino, which houses ten thousand sq.ft. of 130 one armed bandits and 88 gaming tables.
